Hello, fellow deviants!

And so the new year has started for real, and I've been horribly bad at being at dA, as per usual these last few years... (I'm so very sorry for not responding to notes or messages. I'll try my best to reply soon! I have not forgotten about you.

)
I hope last year was fine and that this year has started out nicely for you all. I'm happy to say, it certainly has for me!

Last term I studied magazine layout and typography, meaning I'm now able to handle Adobe InDesign and make cool things with text and images.
I felt like I'd neglected my creative side for many years, so I decided to start using that right side of the brain more seriously, resulting in last term's courses. It was fun and I learned a lot.
This term I've gone one step further and I'm currently learning 3ds Max, a program for, surprise, creating stuff in 3D. And it's possibly the coolest thing I've ever done, because I can be technical and artistic at the same time.
On a possibly even brighter side, it also inspires me to become a better artist in general. Just a few days I started drawing people with the intention of making them as lifelike as possible, using reference photos and
really trying to look at the shading and exactly where the lines are supposed to be. It's a challenge, but with each drawing I feel like I've learned something; I can see where I failed and where I succeeded, and I actually feel like I can learn to do this properly, if I give it enough time. That's what it's all about, isn't it? Time and practice.

Otherwise I'm leading a rather relaxed life at the moment, having lots of time to drink litres of jasmine tea and please my inner nerd by watching until now neglected films and TV series. For example, I've rather recently become a huge fan of BBC's
Sherlock. In honour of that, or rather of a certain actor, my first deviation for this year will be someone I think other fans will recognize. Please check it out and comment if you like!

Now back to studies, which at the moment consists of making sketches and plans on how to build Iron Age/Middle Age-inspired stone/wooden houses and lighthouses in 3ds Max. Oh yes, this life is pleasant...! ;D
